Winter Storm Warning 2-4-2010

Thursday, February 4th, 2010

A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 am EST Saturday.

A mix of rain and snow will develop over the northern mountains
and northern foothills later this evening… before becoming all
snow late tonight. The snow will mix with sleet at times…
especially in areas farther away from the Blue Ridge. The snow
and sleet will begin to mix with freezing rain toward sunrise…
eventually becoming all freezing rain by early Friday afternoon.
4 to 7 inches of snow and sleet is expected across the area by
Friday morning… with locally higher amounts possible along the
Blue Ridge. Additional ice accumulation of around one quarter
inch is expected during the day Friday… although locally higher
amounts will be possible along the Blue Ridge.

Precautionary/preparedness actions…

A Winter Storm Warning means significant amounts of snow…
sleet… and ice are expected or occurring. The combination of
heavy ice accumulation… gusty northeast winds… and a saturated
ground from the recent wet period will likely cause a number of
trees to fall… resulting in at least scattered power outages.
